Statistics from the National Education Association(NEA) show a steady decline of teachers in The United States of America. COVID-19 has hastened the decision of many to quit. As the nation’s School System grapples with its huge losses, other sectors are benefiting from the new influx of diversified workers. So where are those teachers headed, and how are they finding their new roles?

The Corporate World is benefitting immensely from the sudden influx of workers. Many former teachers are choosing to work in finance, training services, software, and healthcare among others.

The decision to quit and start a new career though, has not been easy for some of these teachers, many of whom have been in the teaching profession for years or have not worked at other jobs. The transition therefore, is not at all a smooth one. Several are finding they have to learn new skills for the new jobs they want. This sudden career change means in some instances getting certified or paying for training.

While the transition at first is a learning process, many are finding new doors are opened, and they have more flexibility, time, and can even accomplish more in their new careers.

Social Media is playing a pivotal role in helping the new job seekers to connect with fellows who are on this new learning path. LinkedIn is helpful in this regard as they are learning to network.

Teachers in the Information Technology Field bring their expertises to their new jobs. Teaching Services can benefit from their Planning and Curriculum Development capabilities, and the Finance and Banking Sectors can benefit from former Mathematics and Statistics teachers.

Finally, although the transition, is a learning process, both new managers and hires stand to benefit from this new and experienced group of workers.
